Hi everyone,

It’s actually quite nice to get back into routine now that the holidays are over and lots of exciting new things are happening.

The September drop-in was pretty busy despite Lynne and I both being away, so well done for everyone, especially Sandra H, for holding the fort.  Thanks to those people that brought in poppies etc, and also those who have hung onto their donations for another month to wait until I am there to pick them up. There are some potentially big changes happening at Tadcrafters over the next few months.  If you would like to have your say in what is going to happen you can take part in the discussions at the next drop-in session on 10th October (10am-4pm).

TadApple Day

Preparations are well underway for the Tad Apple Day on  Saturday 21st October. It’s a free community event to get people together.  You can help by collecting apples and bring them down on the day.  People can then use our press to make apple juice to take home and drink (or turn into cider). It will be held at Manor Farm (opposite John Smiths Brewery gates) from 10am-3pm. Other community groups will be joining in with apple related stalls and activities but there’s lots of space so if you know of a community group who might like one please aske them to get in touch. Don’t forget to save your plastic bottles to put juice in and jam jars (with or without lids) for anyone who needs them for jam/chutney etc.. You can use the “Free Stuff in Tadcaster” Facebook group to offer or request items but please use personal messages only to share addresses. More about the history and origins of Apple Day can be found on https://www.commonground.org.uk/apple-day/

Awards

We are through to the finals for the Minster FM Listener Choice Awards! If you have not already voted (on multiple devices if possible) you can still help us to win on November 6th by voting ASAP and sharing please. We are in the in the “Inspirational Business” Category. It only takes about 10 seconds if you follow this link then scroll down to the bottom of the page. https://www.minsterfm.com/listener-choice-voting-11.php.  It’s as simple as that. Alternatively search for the page on the Minster FM website. Tickets for the event are available for finalists (that includes Tadcrafters) from their website if you would like to go.

We are also shortlisted from over 700 applicants for the Skipton Building Society Grassroots Giving Initiative where we can win £500 if enough people vote for us before the deadline on 13th October at Leeds or York Branches, on Facebook, Twitter or follow this link to their website:

Days for Girls

We are going to be supporting Issy and York Days for Girls at their event on 11th October at York Minster with lots of local girls to celebrate the International Day of the Girl. Look out for us in the local press. You will be pleased to know that 45 kits that Tadcrafters have contributed to have gone to Kenya with Beryl. They will be given to each of the girls in Meisori School class 7 (13 years old). This is a picture of one of Beryl’s suitcases:

Stalls

Thanks to Lynne, Sue, Lynda, Bev and Gwen who helped us to support the Macmillan coffee morning in Ulleskelf with a tombola stall.  Thanks also to the people who donated items. We would like to start up small groups of crafters in villages like Ulleskelf.  If you are interested in taking part please contact me.

On Thursday 26th October we will be having an interactive stall at the Community Discovery Day at the Riley Smith Hall 2-8pm. Please come down and help us to sew a few poppies on to the netting in readiness for the Selby Poppy Appeal for the 2018 end of WW1 centenary commemorations.

Our next stall after that will be November 24th at St. James’ in Leeds. We will also be having one at the Tadcaster Christmas market on 3rd December. If you have any suitable tombola items to donate we would be very grateful.  Crafty items are great but anything appropriate (not alcohol/age restricted items) would be fine. Cuddly toys also seem to go down very well if you need to clear out a bit of space before Christmas.

Donations to Tadcrafters

Thank you to Pauline, again, for generously donating her knitting machine to us. I’ve have big plans for it soon.

Hospice Visit

Tadcrafters were invited to go to St. Leonard’s Hospice to discuss a new project to supply them with lots of personal effects bags.  We were lucky enough to have a guided tour round.  If you are interested in having a look around too you can attend their forthcoming open days on 9th -12th October.  Visit their website for further information. http://www.stleonardshospice.org.uk/

Next Projects

If you fancy a change from knitting twiddlemuffs and poppies (we are still collecting them though) you might be interested in knitting scarves for the Radio York appeal.  More information about that next month but if you want to make a start I’m sure you won’t need a pattern!  We are also going to be sewing lots of bags for St Leonard’s Hospice.

Wish list and current projects

Here is a list of current projects and where to get more information about them/ patterns. Not everyone is able to make the drop-in sessions, so if you would like to join in by making at home or with your friends/club that’s absolutely fine.
